Possible bond issue election in September
The Greene County Schools facilities committee may see the final version of conceptual drawings for re-aligned attendance centers as soon as May, school superintendent Tim Christensen told the board of education last week.
The facilities committee has worked with Shive-Hattery Inc of West Des Moines since last fall in the pre-design phase of a capital project. The project would add four or five classrooms to the existing elementary building in Jefferson, remodel the current high school space to accommodate grades 5-8, and add new high school space. The Grand Junction building would eventually be closed, with the future of the existing middle school to be determined.
The board last September approved a contract with Shive-Hattery for the pre-design work at a cost not to exceed $28,500. The board at its April 15 meeting approved another $8,100 for the company for added work related to the administrative building (formerly south grade school) and the locker rooms at the middle school.
Christensen said the conceptual drawings could be rolled out to the public in June, with a 90-day timeline before a ballot question on the needed bond issue. Shive-Hattery would provide consulting services in promoting the bond issue to the public.
